AUTUMN CLASSES 2024 – theme descriptions
‘Awareness Through Movement’ lessons offer you the opportunity to slow down and explore your own habits and patterns and to discover new possibilities and greater ease. Lessons can be small and detailed or larger and more dynamic.
These classes are stand alone so that you can drop-in as you wish (except Tuesday), but if you are able to come regularly you will get a more complete picture. The three themes (below) interweave and overlap, so coming on more or different days works too.
The themes are often a bit more like starting points as I steer the choice and direction of lessons towards to the participants who come regularly, but that’s the advantage of a live weekly class rather than a fixed course.
THEMES for September 6th-December 20th
“Dynamic Core”
Monday 7.30pm (UK) online
Tuesday 7.45pm in-person at the Haelen Centre
Thinking around ‘core’ has mostly shifted from the rigid focus on tightening, holding and stability to include the importance of its dynamic functional use for shifts in balance and to transmit force through twisting, bending, arching through the whole pelvis and torso. This is also more the arena of an exploration using ‘Awareness Through Movement’ lessons.
“Neck and Shoulders”
Wednesday 10am (UK) online
Another chance to investigate both the independence and interdependence of neck and shoulders – and their relation to the chest, and the support of the shoulder girdle and head from the ground up.
Not just useful for those with difficulty in these areas, these ‘Awareness Through Movement’ lessons can enable better balance, and more ease in many aspects of movement and life.
“Pushing, Pulling, Reaching”
Friday 1.30pm in-person at the Crouch End Fitness Centre
Clearly related to Wednesday’s Neck and Shoulders theme, this class will focus more on re-finding and improving the functional use and expansive movement of the arms. We will explore range of movement, dexterity, support and power for the arms through thier relationship to the shoulder girdle, neck, chest, pelvis, legs – and the ground!
